Book Title: The Things They Carried

My book test will focus on the connection between what soldiers carry and how that relates to them. Since this book does a great job of tying together physical and emotional things that soldiers carried during their time in the Vietnam war. My research question will be: In what ways does the items a soldier carries, relate to them mentally?

An article I found in relation to my research was an article from ABC News. It uses interviews with soldiers to see the different types of things they carry with them that gets them through tough times. In the book Lieutenant Jimmy Cross brings with him letters from his love, Martha, although he eventually gets rid of them.  I chose this connection since it is something they bring to war with them, to remember loved ones in such a terrible situation. My next source from Associated Content, address things that soldiers were required to bring. The thing that I am focusing on is the physical workload that the soldiers face by the actual amount of weight in equipment that they carry. The narrator in the book would list the amount of weight that each soldier had with him. This gave the reader an idea of the physical and can be tied into showing all the emotional baggage that these young soldiers face.
